When will the schedule be updated?

I will update the interactive schedule as quickly as I can.  I will update the PDF schedule on Friday.

Is the Wifi good on your campus?

Yes, but maybe not good enough for all of you to immediately stream your short films, newscasts, musical theatre and mime soundtracks while all the other students and guests are doing what they do on their phones in the background.  Play it safe!  Download your tech and bring it with you, don't try to stream it while you are here.

What should I do if I have groups that overlap or are scheduled too closely together?

Email Jodi ASAP!  jodi.grant@nwciowa.edu

What should I do if I have a special request for my groups to perform early/late/etc.?

CALL Stacy Hansen by Thursday, Jan. 4!!  515-401-1834

What should I do if I have an EMERGENCY special request for a substitution and / or use of a script?

CALL Stacy Hansen ASAP!!  515-401-1834 She will decide permission and give a course of action.

What should I do if I have a drop or name change?

You can use the IHSSA Change Form. We will also have a computer in the IHSSA main office in the Theatre Building. Please check in when you arrive at school.

Where should the bus drop off students on the morning of contest?

Please use the main drop-off location behind the music building.  You can enter from Albany Ave. on the east side, deposit students and the bus can exit through the admissions lot and then to the north onto 6th St.  This is the most central location your bus can get. (HERE IS A MAP)

We will also have a waiting zone blocked off with cones along Albany, in front of Hospers and Colenbrander Dorms (Buildings # 16 and 17 on the Campus Map).  You may pull off Albany here to wait to unload, or you may unload in this zone.  This puts you right in between the theatre building, the music building, and Van Peursem Hall (VPH), where most of the performance centers are located.  After dropping off students, buses should park in the maintenance lot east of the football field for the remainder of the day.

Buses will not be able to make the loop between the Chapel and the Learning Commons, but vans and other vehicles can.  Any non-bus vehicles may park in the lot south of campus next to the Bultman Center.  See below for where to store your props/set pieces for your performances.

Do I need to look at the maps before coming to contest?

YES!!  Please familiarize yourself with the overall campus map as well as the individual building maps where your students will be performing PRIOR to contest day!  Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time on the day of contest to find your buildings and centers.

Should I share the maps with my students and parents?

YES!!  Please ask them to familiarize themselves with the overall campus map as well as the individual building maps where the students will be performing PRIOR to contest day!  Make sure the students and parents understand that there is more than one center for RT, EA, GI, and SF.  Most of these centers are in different buildings, not just in different classrooms.  Knowing which center and building they are in could be crucial time savers on the day of contest.  Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time on the day of contest to find your buildings and centers.

We will post ratings live online as they're received. You can check for them live on this website or find one of the many digital displays around campus posting the most recent additions.

Where will you be serving food during the day?

ALL YOU CAN EAT at the Cafeteria (Fern Smith Hall) for only $8 (see our menu HERE) from 7:30-3

To-go containers can be obtained!  This is a GREAT DEAL!!

Common Grounds at the Learning Commons - light food and bougie coffees - from 7:30-3

Theatre Arts Center Lobby - Breakfast Foods - from 8-10 or while supplies last - CASH ONLY

Can we take the food anywhere to eat?

NO! Food will ONLY be allowed in designated eating locations:

The Cafeteria, Common Grounds, and Theatre Lobby (while food is being served)

Please DO NOT have food in any other buildings or in performance centers.

How can I get my OA set pieces onto the stage?

Pieces can be loaded from your vehicle at the theatre scenic studio loading dock. From there they can be carried or carted to the backstage of the Proscenium Theatre.  Location Pins are now available for drop-off / loading locations!

Where is the light booth for the OA center?

The light booth is located at the back of the house in the Proscenium which is on the second floor. You can access the booth either by the elevator or by the stairwell at the northwest entrance. We will have a workstudy student there to help you craft and operate the light board. Come with ideas and needs written down - our students are smart and eager to help you use our conventional lights, color-changing LEDs, and a couple of moving lights. But remember, less is more!

Where can we put on costumes and make-up?

The theatre building has restrooms located in the main hallway between the lobby and the office.  These are the only restrooms in the building, so please try to move quickly so others may use the space.  You may also get ready at Ramaker and then walk over to the theatre building.  There are many restrooms located in the RSC if you want to go a little farther across campus.

Where can we store our set pieces before/after performing?

Each building has a designated storage area you can see on the maps as well as convenient loading/unloading areas for those buildings.  You may store your set CR/RT/MT/EA/MIME/TV/SF/RB in those areas for as long as you need.  Don't forget to pick them up before you leave!  As previously stated, the theatre building has a large storage space in the scenic studio to put your OA and RT props. Location Pins are now available for drop-off / loading locations!

I highly suggest assigning specific students to your props and having them take those pieces where you want them for the day, then having those same students make sure they get back on your bus/trailer/van/etc. at the end of the day.

Where can we warm up before our performance?

Each building has a designated warmup room or rooms to use before your performance.  Please be respectful of other groups that may like to use the rooms, and don't allow your students to simply hang out there.  There is also a warmup room located on the upper floor of Ramaker.

Where should the buses park?

In the gravel parking lot, next to the maintenance building, to the east of the football field.  If needed, students may walk to this area to access the buses throughout the day.

Where should everyone else park?

There is plenty of parking available around campus, especially to the south, west of the Conoco or next to the Bultman Center.

So, where should we go first?

That is completely up to you, but I suggest you have a plan before you arrive.  Would you like to drop off your set pieces off first then ask everyone to meet at Ramaker?  Meet at your first performance location?  Do you want to assign your set multiple pieces to be taken to different areas by different students and then meet somewhere?  Do you plan to do multiple drop-offs?  Do you have a good system of communication set up with your students?  Can you contact them?  Can they contact you?  Have a plan before you arrive and communicate that with your students.  Also, do you have a plan for picking up all of your things after the contest?  Communicate that to your students.
